Welcome to the Saturday Details Page for
The Showband of the Carolinas'
Trip to Pearl Harbor in 2006!

Saturday, November 25

Saturday was our visit to the Polynesian Cultural Center. But first we had some time in the morning to walk over to Waikiki Beach and stand in front of the live beach webcam. This went well, though we should've made a few signs ahead of time to help those staring at the small screen at home! The McRae brother made a make-shift sign for their mother who was about to give birth to the newest McRae.

The Cultural Center is a fascinating park where the band learned more about the island nations that make up Polynesia. In addition to seeing shows from each area, the students sat in on an IMAX movie about coral reefs and their importance to our environment.

After a wonderful dinner in the park, the band settled in for the evening's closing show which pulled together traditions and customs from all the island nations and culminated with an exciting fire twirling segment that, well, fired everyone up (pardon the pun).

It was a great day and got us back to the hotel in time to get a good night's rest for Sunday - Pearl Harbor day.
